About

This blog is meant to showcase the works (in progress) of the Art History students from the "Babeș-Bolyai" University in Cluj-Napoca. As they experiment with different topics, approaches, and styles, Work in Progress will function as a platform launching their texts into the world wide web for their colleagues as well as others to be able to view and appreciate their efforts. Hopefully, as the blog grows it will also help them with tracking their own progress as they exercise writing techniques and perfect their craft.
Most of the texts will come in the form of reviews, analyzing books and even art shows, but also as essays or short preparatory studies on various art history-related themes. All of the chosen subjects and the resulting texts themselves will first be presented and debated in our regular group sessions and round-table discussions. Following the feedback the texts are tinkered with until they reach their best possible form before being published.

Studiem statuile și monumentele publice în încercarea de a realiza o bază e date a acestora și de a crea o hartă digitală care să arate distribuția și diversitatea lor, dar pentru asta avem nevoie de ajutor. N.A.G. Cluj (I)

  Studenții au vizitat și documentat expozițiile deschise cu ocazia Nopții Albe a Galeriilor - Cluj, 2021. Aici sunt impresiile lor! Britannia Pacificatrix, Sigismund Goetze - Analysis / Analiză

        Britannia Pacificatrix is a painting by Sigismund Goetze, made in 1921 for the Foreign Office of the British Government. It belongs to a larger series of works made by Goetze starting from 1912, all of them centered on the evolution, expansion, and triumph of the British Empire. Decorating the walls of the entire office, the images form a propagandistic story that wants to express, through allegorical methods, the grandeur, the power, and the superiority of the Empire that pacified the world after World War I.     A short morphological analysis of the work can easily reflect its propagandistic character: the center of the painting is occupied by the magnificent Britain, dressed in a red cloak that resembles the imperialist troops’ uniforms and a galea, a roman helmet that makes her look like the goddess Athena.
